Competing with Best Available Care: Perspectives on Lowering Burden of Treatment with Cell and Gene Therapies (Organized by the Commercialization Committee)

The goal of this symposium is to discuss the issue of informed patient choice for gene and cell therapies for diseases for which other treatment options exist. The session will provide patient, regulator, and developer perspectives on the following issues for a variety of diseases: the burden of standard-of care (SOC) treatment; the remaining burden of disease under SOC treatment; the gene and cell therapy risk-benefit profile in comparison; the definition of unmet need; equity in access; safety considerations; the role of regulators and payors in facilitating informed patient choice; and the future of the field based on these issues.
